InFamous: Second Son is an upcoming game for the upcoming PlayStation 4, and the 3rd installment in the inFamous series. It features a new setting, a new protagonist, and a seemingly-totalitarian government controlled by the police. It is set seven years after the world of Cole MacGrath[1] and stars a new protagonist, Delsin Rowe. The game was first announced at Sony's PlayStation 4 Press Conference on February 20th, 2013, after officially announcing the successor to the PlayStation 3.

Announcement

Sucker Punch's Nate Fox first announced InFAMOUS: Second Son at Sony's PlayStation 4 press conference. Fox described a world under government observation and control and then asked what would happen if citizens suddenly received super powers. The trailer revealed a city run by police, with a citizen running from the police through an alley before they turned around and used some sort of power to destroy an armored vehicle, along with using the chain wrapped around his right wrist as a weapon.

Background

Set seven years after the episodes of Cole MacGrath, Seattle has been locked down by the Department of Unified Protection (DUP), an organization that handles any sort of bio-terrorism to ensure that the events of Empire City and New Marais don't repeat themselves. [2] It was also revealed that the DUP renamed Conduits into Bioterrorists and have been rounding them up, jailing them and possibly killing them.

Gameplay

As in inFamous and inFamous 2, Karmic choices play a role in the main story. The protagonist, Delsin Rowe, uses smoke-based powers, replacing the electric-based powers of Cole MacGrath from InFamous and InFAMOUS 2. This also means that Delsin will have to absorb smoke (which is said to be far rarer than electricity) to regenerate his powers. Smoke is absorbed by pushing both thumbs on the DualShock 4's touch pad.[3]

Trivia

  • The recurring logo gag returns with Delsin Rowe in the title's silhouette.
