As Cole helps Zeke limp back to the truck they both see a small vortex form between two of the cranes and realize that the Beast had survived the nuke after all.

The Beast Draws Near is the 26th Story mission of InFamous 2.

Discription

Learn to love the bomb, man.
― Zeke

The mission begins when Zeke comes to pick up Cole in a semi truck, which is later revealed to be carrying a nuclear missile that Wolfe had developed for Bertrand. Zeke has Cole jump on the missile and the truck departs. During the ride, Zeke makes it known that he plans to use it to nuke the Beast in order to eliminate its threat, which Cole protests. Zeke reassures Cole that the fallout will have no effect on New Marais if the Beast is hit outside the city. Cole agrees to the plan, and must then escort Zeke and the semi across the city. Several Militia and Icemen will put up a fight along the way.

Once they reach the docks in Flood Town, Cole must fight off several enemies before using Zeke's binoculars to paint a target on the Beast. However his first atempt is interuped by more Vermaak soldiers and he must defeat all of them before he can try retargeting the missile. Once Cole gets back to the binoculars his job is to keep the target painted on the Beast so the missile hits the right place.

After the missile hits the Beast, Cole and Zeke are briefly knocked out by the force of the explosion. When Cole comes to, the sky is filled with dust and debris from the explosion, but as far as he can tell the plan worked. Cole calls out to Zeke and finds that he is pinned beneath some debris, but (despite hurting his leg) is otherwise unharmed. As Cole helps Zeke limp back to the truck, they both see a small vortex form between two of the cranes and realize that the Beast had survived the nuke after all.

Zeke begs Cole to go on without him but Cole refuses to leave his friend behind and quickly finishes helping him back to the truck. A cut scene then plays showing Cole and Zeke riding away from the vortex as it explodes with a massive force sending the truck flying. The mission ends with Cole waking up near the overturned truck and realizing that the Beast is still alive and is now in New Marais.

Zeke calls Cole shortly after the mission and informs him that he attempted to follow the Beast but lost it as it entered the Gas Works.

Trivia

  • Along the way, Zeke will shout, "Stop shooting the thermonuclear missile!", which is a reference to a similar line by John Travolta in the movie Broken Arrow.
  • Throughout the mission the Beast can be seen on the horizion fighting with military forces.
  • The vortex that the Beast uses to recreate itself seems to suck up all the dust and fallout from the nuclear missile that was present just after it went off.
